About Emma

For as long as I can remember, I have adored travelling. A natural curiosity combined with a fascination for diverse cultures, exceptional wildlife and anything novel and adventurous has always inspired me to travel, and to venture that little bit further off the beaten track. I spent a long period of time living in Sri Lanka and know this incredibly diverse Indian Ocean island inside out. From here I would often travel to neighbouring countries such as India, The Maldives, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Circumnavigating Borneo solo was my first Rough Guides research trip, and I’ve also worked on guides to India, Australia, Cambodia and Sri Lanka. Memorable travel experiences include diving off Sipadan Island, scaling Mount Kilimanjaro, trekking through pristine jungle in Borneo in search of wild orang utans, exploring the Tortuguero’s jungle-edged canals by kayak in Costa Roca, and spying 300+ elephants on safari in Sri Lanka alongside my two young sons. Family travel is my forte. I’ve travelled extensively with my children and learnt that adventure is possible at any age if you find the right balance. I also love creating unforgettable memories for couples and intergenerational groups.

My writing work has featured in a range of publications including Conde Nast Traveller, Lonely Planet, Guardian Travel, The Daily Telegraph, The Times, SUITCASE and Wanderlust. For more references, see www.emmamboyle.com

“We had the best holiday ever to celebrate our grandfather’s birthday. We loved going on a touk touk in the tea plantations, seeing elephants and leopards on safari and doing lots and lots of surfing at the beach. They even organised a delicious birthday cake in every place we stayed!”
